HandCraftedThese panels come completely ready to use right out of the box. A component of
the Masterpanels Renaissance recipe includes a top layer that renders the
panel's surface mostly non-absorbent. This final step is critical, because when
attempting to paint on a gesso panel with no further preparation you will find
that most if not all of your paint will be quickly absorbed. Masterpanels.com has completely solved this
problem by providing a secret, final
layer that covers the entire surface of the gesso panel. This allows your
paint to sit on top of the surface, and not soak into the gesso foundation.
Authentic Renaissance Recipe
This authentic
Renaissance recipe has been passed down
from teacher to apprentice spanning centuries. President and Chief Artisan,
James Parkes Sulkowski acquired this knowledge from his father, Joseph H.
Sulkowski who learned the craft during his years as a student at the Art
Students League of New York.

Toned Surface
Aside from crafting each panel
entirely
by hand, what really sets Masterpanels apart is the option to have your panel
toned with a variety of
classical
pigments. Currently you can choose your panel in Pink, Blue, Ochre, Raw
Umber, Terre Verte, and White. This final toned layer seals the surface yet
leaves the luminous quality of the gesso intact. You can also choose to have
your panel with a clear final layer that leaves the white surface of the gesso
visible.
